Paintings and Installations using recycled traffic signs.
Cosmic Jesus, 2021 , mixed media painting on traffic signs , 2100 x 1800 mm
“The work challenges us to take our tentative journeys towards understanding where we are and where we want to go" (LJ Easter)
"Delicia Sampero's images capture the whole spectrum of levels in my imagination about the ways we connect...through the cosmos, through the matrix of the web, through the fascia of the body, through the earth… Wonderful." (J. Macke)
These paintings once served as traffic signs and now serve as meditations on the impacts of digital technology.
The material’s reflectivity reacts dramatically to changes in light and can make the paintings appear luminous at times.
Cosmic Jesus painting lit with white and with red light.

The Conference of the Birds
The road-sign-birds point to the spiritual and physical connection of (rural and urban) spaces with their legged and winged inhabitants.
The Birdpeople are visiting different sites in Aotearoa as environmental beacons, drawing attention to the context they appear in by
their presence and stimulating discourse. QR codes link them to video documentations of their journey on the internet.
The title “Conference of the Birds “ references the 1000 year old poem by Persian Poet Attar, where a group of birds set out on a journey to find their legendary leader, referred to as Simorgh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conference_of_the_Birds
In the poem, each bird represents a fault of man. Many drop out of the journey. Some finally arrive at the place of prophecy, but instead of a king they find a lake, where they see their own reflection and each other…
