Birdpeople are visiting different sites in Aotearoa. They act as poetic symbols in the environment, inviting people to take a fresh look at their every -day surroundings and to contemplate the relationship of roads, city, people and nature. They can also be read as pointers to a different dimension.
The merging of bird and man has been a popular motif in Pacific Imagery and world history, where bird people are employed as messengers to a spiritual realm or affirm the connection between humans and their natural environment.
The Conference of the Birds draws from other disciplines in Sampero's art practice: dance, figurative painting and her exploration of art in connection to social, environmental and spiritual questions.
Backstory
The title “Conference of the Birds “ references the 1000 year old poem by Persian Poet Attar about a spiritual journey and quest .http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conference_of_the_Birds
