In a multi-site installation (see images on this page) the flock visually connected the Lopdell House to the Te Uru building site and the temporary Lopdell House Gallery off-site premises in New Lynn  for the summer months , drawing attention to the development  of the New Arts' Hub and Gallery In West Auckland.

​Conference of the Birds Tour 2013 - 2018

 
The Birdpeople are visiting different sites in Aotearoa as environmental beacons, asking the viewer to consider and rethink assumptions about the everyday and the ordinary and to environmental issues  that may perhaps be overlooked.
QR codes link them to video documentations of their journey on the internet.


Backstory
The title “Conference of the Birds “ references the 1000 year old poem by Persian Poet Attar, where a group of birds set out on a journey to find their legendary leader, referred to as Simorgh. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Conference_of_the_Birds
In the poem, each bird represents a fault of man. Many drop out of the journey. Some finally arrive at the place of prophecy, but instead of a king they find a lake, where they see their own reflection and each other…
